Egyptian grocery price intelligence

Basket Bee measures what Egypt actually pays for groceries.

We independently measure shelf and delivered prices across the country's major grocery chains and the platforms selling alongside them, resolve rival retailers' listings into the same product, and package that measurement to be licensed by the brands who need to know where they stand.

The asset is the measurement.

Anyone can read a price off a website. The difficult, defensible part is holding enough of them, for long enough, resolved accurately enough that two competing retailers can be compared on the same product. That is what has been built.

23Retail chains measured

Grocery chains under measurement, each counted once however many ways it sells. Eight marketplace and delivery platforms are measured alongside them, for 31 retailer identities in all.

359,260Priced listings, latest capture

Listings carrying a price in the most recent complete capture, counted exactly rather than estimated. 99.8% of the capture's listings carry one.

33,077Products priced at two or more retailers

The figure that decides whether a price can be compared between rivals: distinct products with a price at two or more different retailers. The catalog holds far more products than this; most are sold by only one of them.

What is built.

Not a prototype and not a slide. A measurement system that runs end to end, from observing a price to publishing a figure that has to hold up when a client eventually checks it against their own shelf.

A working measurement fleet

Collection runs across the major Egyptian grocery chains and the platforms selling alongside them, on whichever channels each one actually sells through, producing a catalog that is rebuilt cycle after cycle.

Cross-retailer product identity

The catalog resolves listings into comparable products rather than stopping at a pile of rows, which is what makes any comparison possible at all.

Accuracy that is measured

Match quality is scored against barcode evidence withheld from the matcher, and the result is written down — including the share of matches no independent check can reach.

Licensed access model

The client data model, per-client scoping and package structure for the B2B product are built and running in a controlled environment.

Operator control plane

An internal console runs collection, review and publication, and keeps the risky actions explicit.

Governance scaffolding

Access boundaries, retention rules and automated checks sit alongside the pipeline rather than being left to habit.

Built for the hard part: a comparison that survives scrutiny.

Prices move, promotions carry conditions, and the same product appears under different names in different languages. Basket Bee keeps those distinctions visible instead of collapsing the market into one misleading headline number.

Measured, not modelled

Every price is an observation of a real listing at a real place and time, carrying where it came from and when. Nothing on the shelf is inferred to fill a gap.

A promotion is not a price

A lower headline number usually has a condition attached. The data keeps the plain price and the conditional price apart, so a comparison survives contact with the fine print.

The same product, across rivals

Two retailers describe the same item in different languages, pack sizes and spellings. Resolving those into one comparable product is the hard part, and it is the part that is built.

Not a list of prices. A market you can query.

Because listings resolve into products and products carry history, the catalog answers questions a price list cannot: how a brand is positioned against its rivals, where a promotion is running, and what has moved since last quarter.

Built

The measurement layer

Broad multi-chain collection, cross-retailer product resolution, offer modelling, uncertainty review, controlled publication, and the operator console that runs all of it.

In flight

The licensed product

Taking the client data model, scoping and packaging from a controlled environment to a customer-facing intelligence portal, and moving collection from operator-run to scheduled.

Next

First revenue, then breadth

Land the first licensed accounts, then widen category depth and the analytics sold on top of the same measurement.

What a client actually licenses.

Brands do not buy rows. They buy answers about their own position on a shelf they do not control and cannot see from the inside.

Price positioning

Where a brand's products sit against competitors on the same shelf, by chain and by area, over time rather than as a single snapshot.

Promotion visibility

Which products are being discounted, where, and on what terms — including the conditions attached to the headline number.

Distribution and presence

Where a product is actually listed and where it has gone missing, measured independently of what any single retailer reports.

Channel differences

Whether the same product is priced differently depending on how it is bought, quantified instead of assumed.

Category movement

How prices are moving across a whole category, giving context that a brand's own sales data cannot supply.

Scoped access

A licence covers named categories and comparison sets, and the scope is enforced by the system rather than by convention.

Who this is for.

The same measured catalog serves the brands competing on the shelf, the agencies managing them, and the investors underwriting the category.

Brands and manufacturers

FMCG suppliers who need to see how their products are priced and promoted across the market, rather than relying on what each retailer chooses to report back.

Agencies and distributors

Teams managing several brands or territories at once, who need the same measurement applied consistently across all of them.

Investors and analysts

Allocators looking for a durable data position in Egyptian consumer commerce, where the underlying measurement is the asset.

The investable wedge.

Basket Bee measures Egypt's major grocery chains at the product level, holds every past capture rather than a single snapshot, and is taking that measurement to the brands whose commercial decisions depend on it.

The data asset exists

23 grocery chains and 8 marketplace and delivery platforms under measurement, and 359,260 priced listings in the most recent capture — built and held, not projected. Every capture is retained, so the catalog carries history rather than a single snapshot.

Resolution, not scraping

The value is not the collection. It is that mixed Arabic-English listings from rival retailers resolve into the same product, which is the step that makes the data sellable.

Accuracy with a stated scope

Match quality is checked against barcode evidence the matcher never sees. Only a minority of matches admit that check at all, and the share that cannot be checked is disclosed rather than hidden inside an average.

Both channels, measured not assumed

Ten of the retailers are measured on both the in-store and the delivery channel, which is what makes it possible to quantify a channel price difference rather than assume one.

Built for brands, not for retailers

The product is designed for FMCG suppliers and their agencies. Retailers are the subject of measurement and are not the intended buyer, so the commercial model would not depend on the cooperation of the companies being measured.

Boundaries written down

Collection operates within defined limits, with the stop conditions recorded in advance and reviewable.

Investor and partner conversations

Bring us the hard questions.

Ask about coverage durability, how accuracy is measured and where it is weakest, what the licensed product includes, or what it takes to move from a founder-run pipeline to a scheduled commercial service.

Figures on this site describe a measured catalog at a stated date. Collection is operator-run today, so no refresh schedule is promised.
